Congratulations! You have a sweet new baby and now you have made the decision to have beautiful photographs taken of them.
Newborn photography is my passion, I eat, sleep, and breathe it. I truly love what I do, it’s not a job to me. I do not take the fact that I am chosen and trusted to photograph your perfect new tiny human lightly. I pride myself on producing beautiful art work that you will cherish forever. I thank you from the bottom of my heart ~ Becky
You’ve Made the Decision, Now What? I’m glad you asked…
Once your sweet angel makes his or her entrance into the world, you or someone that you have designated, should contact me within 48 hours to discuss booking availability. I prefer to photograph newborns between 7 & 12 days because they are still very sleepy and flexible. I have on occasion photographed up to 3 weeks of age.
DAY OF SESSION PREP:
Bathing your newborn about an hour or two before your session gets them all nice and squeaky clean for their photo shoot! If the baby has flaky skin, you might lotion them down to decrease the appearance, but honestly, I love flaky newborn skin, it’s a part of who your sweet baby is, so don’t stress over it. Dress the baby in very little to no clothing(weather permitting and if they are comfortable), nothing that has to go over their head please. This allows me to undress the baby with minimal disturbance once you arrive. Diaper only would be great, but also a shirt or onsie that snaps or zips together is perfectly fine too.
It is ideal to have baby fed and asleep when you arrive, but we all know that the baby makes his or her own rules and that doesn’t always happen. I suggest feeding the baby before you leave for the session and hopefully the car ride over will help them stay asleep. If they need to be fed after you arrive, that is perfectly fine.
If you bottle feed, either formula or breast milk, please bring extra along. The session can last between 2-3 hours and we want to keep baby as sleepy as possible, passed out from milk overload I would suggest bringing at least 8 oz extra.
If you are using a pacifier, please bring it, they are very soothing to the baby and will help us when we are placing the baby in various poses.
Please bring plenty of diapers, wipes, and blankets to wrap your baby in. While in between poses I will loosely place a diaper on your baby to protect you and have you wrap them in a nice warm blanket.
I have several props, blankets, outfits, etc. for you to choose from.
I keep the room very warm for the baby, so please dress accordingly. Parent shots are taken at the beginning, so if you’d like, you can bring a change of clothes to change into for more comfort after you poses are done.
What should you wear for your poses with the baby? I prefer neutral, earthy tones, like browns, tans, creams, grays, etc. Most, probably closer to all, of my poses are from the waist up, so you can wear whatever bottoms will be most comfortable for you. Please avoid tops with pictures, writing, or crazy patterns on them.
Keep in mind that baby may fuss a bit while we are getting him or her into position. I promise that I will never do anything that would even come close to harming your precious baby. They usually only fuss for a few seconds, but if I don’t feel like the baby is going to settle into a position, I will move on to another. Also know that one of us,you, me, or dad, will always be right beside the baby. At no time will the baby be left unattended. SAFETY IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE TO ME!!
Parents and siblings are always encouraged to be photographed with baby. If bringing siblings, please make sure to bring along another adult besides yourself, to keep them entertained while we are focusing on the baby. Also, I live very close to the Via Port Mall, so it is always an option for dad or the other adult that came with you to take the siblings there after their poses are complete. Also keep in mind that the session can take up to 3 hours, so feel free to bring a snack for yourself or the siblings.
That’s it!! You’re done! Woo Hoo!! Now go home and take a nap with your little prince or princess. And now the behind the scenes work, that no one see,s will start. I will edit retouch the photos of your super star and depending on how many are in line ahead of you, I will finish them up within 2 weeks. I have gone a couple of days over before, but that is not the norm.
